On Cloud 9
Inspired by “The Voice of the Silence” by H.P. Blavatsky, this series of paintings explore the levels of spiritual growth described by Eastern philosophy- comparing them to layers of atmospheric strata that arise from our grounded earthly existence and elevate towards ultimate fulfillment.
They attempt to tell the tale of the journey of the human spirit, of the very nature and texture of these etherial planes the evolving soul must cross en route to total realization. Each level is specific and particular in it’s characteristics, with opportunity for each cloud state to elevate further or descend back to earth contained within. But to describe them, to reach them, is also to become one with them. The relationship between subject and object is as clouded as it is clear.The journey must be internalized to be understood. It is up to you to decide if I have been successful in describing this experience through metaphor and paint, as my objectivity is equally clouded as it is clear. I haven’t completed this series yet, have not yet reached Cloud 9. But I will… I will be on Cloud 9!
